Did you ever know what is Osteogenesis Imperfecta? It is also known as “brittle bone disease” which is a genetic bone disorder characterized by fragile bones that break easily. In the majority of cases, the gene is either inherited from a parent who has Osteogenesis Imperfecta or results from a spontaneous new mutation occurring at the time of conception. Osteogenesis Imperfecta occurs in approximately 1 in 20,000 individuals.

There are different types of Osteogenesis Imperfecta with symptoms that range from mild to severe. Each person with the condition may have a different combination of symptoms. Some people have a severe form of the disorder in which their bones break easily. The common symptoms of Osteogenesis Imperfecta include shot stature, triangular-shaped face, breathing problems, hearing loss, brittle teeth and bone deformities.
